Drive - 10 to max 15 minutes, lrt- 15 minutes (2 minutes lrt ride) 13 minutes walk. Cycle - 30 minutes maximum. I hv been cycling from home to office building on weekend to check the best route, the slowest time, the best time etc...but...the bike in the lift? That is the main obstacle although i am riding a foldable bike.
till today, i dint know that there was a bike commuters in Malaysia. I am studying post-grad in UiTM , Shah Alam and i have been cyling to school since my undergrad days. Its a relief to find one. Main obstacle i find why people are afraid of commuting by bike is that the heat and sweat. But all we commuters know that the more you ride, the less we sweat and the heat wont be such an obstacle. I ride my semi slicked MTB (unbranded) but it gets me where i want. No need for expensive bikes
Hi, your blog is perfect, I study transportation. the problem is weather, people are reluctant to ride a bike as it's humid and warm, so, more people tend to ride motorcycle to commute to work and etc., but this cause around 4000 fatality every year. the solution is exclusive motorcycle lane..........
Anon 3:36PM. I think folding bike in a lift is not a problem unless the lift is really packed. 30 minutes ride is an ideal situation for riding to work.
Faisal: There's no bad weather, but actually bad clothing. In fact, I had written about it in my earlier posting " On the move - No sweat". Yeah, we don't need expensive bikes for transportation purposes.
Terbelog: Thanks for reading.
Anon 1:33PM: Our infrastructures are planned around automobiles. What is required is to plan infrastructures around people. We need to give people options to choose their preferred transportation mode to move around.
CycleFriday is not a cycling group. Cyclefriday initially was to encourage Malaysians to cycle to work at least once a week i.e on Friday. However with the recent growing interest in cycling, we need to do transformation on the objective i.e to advocate the use of bicycle as an everyday transport.
