Cycle Friday Teh Tarik Session 16 Jan 2009

It was an enjoyable moment for the inaugural teh tarik session. Man CIOCC and I rode together to Pelita Jalan Ampang from his office at Jalan Masjid Jamek. We don't even sweat...Haha..and as usual the traffic jam madness from Jalan Raja Chulan to KLCC. Others that came were Khairul, Sham Dewa and Kelolo. Some others couldn't make it this time round. Pelita was quite packed at that time. Huh..it will be chaotic if let say 100 bike commuters turn up. Since initiating Cycle Friday about a month ago, I got to know more Malaysians that cycle to work...and more will answer the calling. Khairul shared his story about making his DIY tights..sewing sponge to his boxer..hehe...Finally he gave up and bought himself a proper tights. He could not imagine what his maid would think of him when she does the washing..."apa ini Pak...seluar ada span"...Hahaha...

One thing that I learned was about being practical and you don't have to think too much about making the decision to cycle to work...Just ride it!

Inspiring video and story by Man CIOCC on his maiden ride to work: http://manciocc.blogspot.com/2009/01/160109-cycle-friday.html

Assalamualaikum,

Thanks bro Zizan, one thing I forgot to mention was, I normally got home drenched in sweats all over the place, the boxer got so wet that it left an imprint on my pants inner lining. That's when I thought I need to buy a proper padded tights. Kelakor betol!

Thanks to my Mom who allowed me to 'whack' her Singer sewing machine when I was little, well the skill sure come in handy now.

Thanks to my mother-in-law who decides to leave the motorized sewing machine in my house. Little did she know that the son-in-law is a 'tukang repair jeans' wannabe. Ha ha ha.

They say 'necessity is mother of all inventions'. How true.

Sorry could not make it for the tea tarik session. Cycle to work and back only 11km no sweat.

You can include that in your wish list:-) I like that Pelita coz of it's prayer room facility. I don't have to worry about my shoes stolen as well as my other belongings.

I understand that you want to park your car in Shah Alam. I would prefer and normally travel using d glenmarie route to subang jaya. Maybe you could try it out first during weekend. That's how I started cycling to work.

I would not recommend motorbike lane early in the morning coz it's too busy and they are really fast. But one of my friends could handle it well with the motorbike traffic. You must be extra careful as you enter d bike lane as well as when you exit. I do take motorbike lane before on my way to kl from usj but not during peak hours.

There is one guy "timemachine" that uses the federal highway emergency lane when he cycle to work from puchong to PJ. Read his comment on my first posting.

Roadbike or Mountain? It all depends on you. I ride fixed gear and sometimes mtb but both installed with straight bars. I think it's easier to manoeuvre compared to dropbar for kl traffic. But I think for Subang Jaya it's not a problem.

I will cycle to work for the first time in Feb 2009. I will choose one of the Fridays. By the way, do you have any idea of similar to bike boutique in KL?

Dr Taufik

Great! At the moment, not that I know of something that is similar to bike boutique. I am looking forward to hear about your maiden ride experience.
